I created a card game...

Updated: Oct 1, 2025

Hey everyone! It's time for a little story.

So, my brother is obsessed with soccer. He loves soccer cards and has quite a few. He works hard and saves up so he can collect them. Recently my brother and I have been playing a game using his soccer cards called Top Trumps. Now, we didn't actually create Top Trumps, Top Trumps was first published in 1978 (thanks Wikipedia!). Essentially, the aim of the game is to compare a card with an opponents' one, and whoever has the winning statistic gets to keep the cards. The first player to collect all the cards wins.

When my brother originally proposed the idea of us playing a game with his soccer cards, I was hesitant at first, but once I got into it, it was really fun!

Today, I (and ChatGPT) came up with the idea of creating my own Top Trumps cards. I ended up digitally designing 24 cards using Canva. Now, they do not have soccer statistics, but music facts. So, there are stats on different musicians, and you compare your given artist with your opponent's one. I'm sure this has been done before, I just made my own version of it!

Then I took a visit to Officeworks with my Dad to print the cards on cardstock. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to laminate them, but I am going to make this a long-term project, refine what I have, make more cards, and eventually make a final, laminated version.

I would definitely recommend trying to create your own game. I've done it in the past, and it's a fun process, you learn a bit, and playing with family and friends is great fun.

I'll update you on how my cards are going!
